Got to check out the new San Jose, Lake Cunningham Skatepark this past weekend. Overall, a great park. They used the space very well and there is a nice separation between the beginner/intermediate and advanced areas. There is also ample space for spectators which makes it a great venue for contests. If you're in the area, definitely a place to stop by and skate. Without membership ($10 per year, I think), you only pay $2 for an all-day pass. Anyone that wants to spectate, including your dog, will have to pay $2. "Anything that breathes" was the quote I got from the skatepark staff. A little greedy on the part of the city, in my opinion. The money goes toward putting lights in the park, but that's what fund raisers are for. Let the public watch for free, I say.
I didn't find much of a session the two days that I was there. At one point on Friday, there were three people in the entire park, including me. I did see a few guys ripping up the pools. And also met Robert and his daughter Alex from Vegas. Alex was getting some nice grinds and backside airs in the 12 ft bowl. I would have shot some photos of her, but they took off to hit the Santa Cruz park before I broke out the camera. The park is a definite 1 or 2 day layover on your way up north or park tour.
