Well, the king of the mega ramp did it again. I don't think there was any question that Danny Way would take his third X Games gold in the Big Air contest. It was this year that Danny unveiled his rocket air backflip over the gap and a 23 ft. christ air. Andy Macdonald and Bob Burnquist had both pulled backflips and frontflips respectively, but come contest time, they couldn't stick one.

Jake Brown was a great story. Jake landed in second place with an awesome run. Jake had just started to air over the big gap the day before the contest. His first attempt, he landed about halfway down the landing ramp, but the day of the contest, he nailed a backside 3 and stomped a 18 ft.+ 540. Jake also was trying backside 360 ollies over the gap. He actually put his wheels down on one, but bailed out.

Bob Burnquist didn't pull his frontflip, but his other tricks were pretty gnarly in themselves. Bob dropped in switch and did a backside 180 ollie to frontside double heelflip on the quarter.

Bucky ended up just out of medal contention, but had one of the highlights of the contest. He pulled a backside 3 over the small gap, then did a heelflip frontside, when he caught his board, he thought about bailing, but since we was still about 16 ft above the lip, he threw it back under his feet and rode away. The crowd went bananas. It was awesome.

Andy played it safe the first couple runs and landed his backside judo 3 and his 18-20 ft judo air on the quarter. The other runs, he tried his backflip, but was never able to pull one out and he got 5th place.

Rob Lorifice was determined to pull his backside rodeo on the quarter, but didn't have it in him on contest day. He stuck his tailgrab 3's over the gap, but couldn't land his rodeo.

Next year is going to be a great contest since Bob now has his own mega ramp in his backyard. Look for Danny to step it up too. Pictures or video can't really do the contest justice. It's just something you'll have to experience for yourself. If you can make it out next year, it's well worth it.
